Herbed Butter

Ah, there it is....the butter dish at the beginning of Thanksgiving dinner.

A beautiful, untouched sight to behold.

It won't be long before each family member will be shaving a tiny pat with the butter knife and placing it on their plate.

The butter knife will be returned to the butter dish after each use and everyone will use their own table knife to butter their roll, vegetables or what have you.

That butter dish will be just as tidy at the end of dinner,  albeit with a smaller cube.

Bridal Bonanza

I was so ready to take down the cobwebs, and ghouls and plastic snakes and put Halloween away.

I was ready to move on to the next big event.

I know there are some pretty big holidays just around the corner but the next big happening around this place is a wedding!

Fun Size?

Really?

I mean really, who are they trying to kid with that"Fun Size" label?

If you ask me the fun size is a Hershey's Milk Chocolate with Almonds the size of an iPad!

Our Hall of Shame

I know exactly who to blame thank for this idea.

It's that foxy Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage.  It all started when I saw this pic of Shannon on Facebook .  She had turned herself into a Zombie (she's really nice I promise) with PicMonkey.

Before long, bloggers all over the place were joining her legions and she created a gallery of Blogger's gone bad here.

I couldn't resist turning nice pictures of our family at Yellowstone this summer into something a bit more sinister with PicMonkey.

This was my favorite transformation.  My Stepson is a true spider-phobe.  I'm not sure he could even look at it...sorry bud!

Then I printed the pictures and replaced my ordinarily peaceful black and white fern pictures with my new Zombies just in time for our October party.

After everyone showed up, it took a minute to realize that THEY were the eerie people on the wall.

Although I'm not so sure that that everyone was amused with being inducted into my "Hall of Shame".

One thing is fairly certain though.  Even thought these wall sconces have been black for a while, as soon as Halloween is over, they are going to get painted a bright happy color.

I don't want to have a flashback every time I step foot in the dining room.

And I just might throw around a little spider spay too, ya know,  just in case.

The fun is still going on at PicMonkey, so it's not too late to Zombitize your family.

I Dare Ya...

I really don't think we have any haunted houses in our town.

But if we did, I'd want it to be this one.

This beautiful old Italianate sits down on the corner just a half block from our house.

Sleeves and Armpits

Now what kind of a crazy title is that?

Nobody starts off a blog post talking about armpits.

Nobody, except possibly me?  Well, there is some logic here.

Bedroom Makeover with Olioboard

You see them all over blogland.

Inspiration boards with all kinds of beautiful designs.

I'm not exactly saying this is one of those beautiful boards.....but it did help me pick out an accent color and fabrics when it came time to complete my bedroom.

Button Front Pillows

With all the pillow posts I've been doing lately you'd think I'd be about fluffed-out.

Not so.....

I've got more.....

The 4th Amigo

If you happened to stop by my blog last week you may remember the three amigos.

(Although now that I think about it, it really should be the three amigas, because they have got to be girls with all the ruffles and rosettes.)

Steal My Heart!!

Can I be a mom for just a minute?

The kind of mom that can't resist putting a few pictures of her little girl on the blog.

Three Amigos

It was with great anticipation that I awaited the arrival of amigo #3.  The final addition to my front porch pillow pile.

Poultry Netting Lamp Shade

Ya know what?  Donna, from Funky Junk Interiors stopped by my blog last week and took a look and my poultry netting valance.  (She really did, I wouldn't make up something like that). She threw out a simple idea.....LAMPSHADE.  A light bulb went off in my head and I couldn't sleep until I put one together.

Tea Dyed Chicken Wire Valance

Sometimes having a messy craft room can create a happy accident.  Like a few weeks ago when a piece of chicken wire I'd left on the floor got all tangled up with some old gauzy drapery material.

Too Close for Comfort

My heart skipped a beat when I heard on the radio there was a grass fire in the neighboring town.  It skipped a double beat when I realized the fire was headed toward my favorite old barn.

Is it Really Labor Day?

I'm all but certain this never happens at your house, but it seems to catch me every time.  It usually happens when I have some special guests coming for dinner.  I've worked hard all day but there are always just a few things I don't quite get to.

County Fair Showdown

The competition was fierce this year at the county fair as the tablescapers young and old gathered at the quonset hut.

Step inside for a minute and see if you can spot the winner.

The Quilting Bee Luncheon

Gone are the days when my Grandmother would have her gal pals over for a quilting bee.  Her newly completed quilt top would be stretched across the frames and I'd have my cozy spot under the quilt to play for the day and listen to the gossip.

Week in the City: Day 4

Have you seen those pictures of the US Presidents?

The comparative photos where they show how they looked on the first day they took office and how they aged by the time their term was up.

Week in the City: Day 3

If you are just joining us today, don't worry you haven't missed too much.  I'm taking a look back at some of the projects we completed at our house in the city....long before I became a chippy-paint-mason-jar lovin' country gal.

But this fireplace at the house in the city really lights my fire!

Week in the City: Day 2

Ladies and Gentlemen!  Step right up, you are about to witness the "The Grrrrrreatest Show on Earth"?

At least that's the ballyhoo I get from my husband every time he steps into the city house dining room.  He says the stripes I painted remind him of a circus tent, but I am unfazed by his teasing.

Week in the City: Day 1

You may wonder why someone who blogs non-stop about a farmhouse and small town life would bother to talk about a house near the city?  The truth is......I made a shocking confession last week....it's true...we still have a house in the city!  This is the house we left behind.

The Garden of Weedin'

I think it's time I let you all in on a little secret.  Kind of a deep, dark, dirty little secret. Actually it is more of a weedy little secret at the moment.

With "Wreck-less" Abandon

What if you had a day with no consequences? What would you do?

A day where the normal rules just didn't apply. Stop lights couldn't stop you and throwing mud all over everything was fun.

Just a thought...

A quick quote and a tip for today....

I found the cutest pinboard with fun chalkboard art by Kristen at Ella Clair blog. She has put together a great collection if you're in the mood.

Fry Sauce: It's a Utah Thing

It's happened enough times that I finally get it: fry sauce is a Utah thing.  If I'm out-of-state at a restaurant  and ask, "Do you have fry sauce here?"  I usually get a puzzled look from the waiter/waitress and they say (in a semi-disgusted tone), "Of course".  Then they bring back a little white cup with ketchup in it?

Playing with Action Photography

I tell ya, a lot happens in our small town.  On the same day that Main Street was shut down to the south for the car show....

it was shut down to the north for the Triathlon.

Debbiedoos' Copy Cat Challenge

There are so many inspiring blogs out there.  Sometimes I'll find something that sparks an idea, and makes me want to do something similar with my own twist.

But this painted rug in my upstairs hall isn't one of those "inspired by..." projects. Nope, it's an all-out-copy-every-freakin' detail project.  All I did was change the color scheme.

What I Now Know About Orchids

It's a one sided love affair.

Oh how I love them....

Their slender arched stems that hold those exotic looking blooms,

Ramona: Our Guardian Angel

I suppose it may be a little strange to go around naming things in your house.  But when they look this human and have an actual mission it makes a little more sense.

She stands guard over the front door while we are away....

Ladder Safety 101

So, how was your weekend?   Mine was great, oh, other than that paint can I dumped on my head.  I've been know to do some stupid things but this pretty much qualifies me for the DIY Neanderthal Award.    (No offense to any specific ancient human) I am just certain that somewhere in the course of human development some poor Troglodyte wore a similar look while cave painting!
